FALLEN HEROES SPONSORSHIPS

Their duty was to serve. Our duty is to remember.

For more than 90 years, Wicker Memorial Park has served as a living memorial to those killed in foreign wars. Thousands of individuals walk past the eternal flame at Indianapolis Boulevard and Ridge Road every single day. Tens of thousands more cars pass by the corner and are reminded of the sacrifice our residents have made to keeping our homeland safe.

Today, we are working to create a companion memorial at that very visible corner for North Township Fallen Heroes — police officers, firefighters and emergency medical service personnel from North Township — who have died in the line of duty. These are soldiers of a different stripe, individuals whose DNA includes a special kind of valor and gutsiness reserved for a distinct few who run into danger to save others when every instinct should tell them to run the other way.

This memorial — anchored by three granite pillars — will include benches, memorial bricks and ample green space to give survivors and a grateful community a respectful location to mourn — and to remember.

Please consider making a donation to this very worthy cause. Help us take this idea from a planners’ drawing — to the reality it so richly deserves.
